of Fair OaksAikido has its origins in the Japanese traditions of the warrior (budo). Through hard training and self discipline, budo dispels the ignorance that clouds Self awareness. Rather that the defeat of another human being, Aikido seeks to understand peace.
This warriors' practice deeply grasps the understanding that we are all connected and our protection is the protection of all beings. The techniques of Aikido; neutralization, blending with and avoidance of attack are characterized by a balanced body posture, calm mind, integrated breath and the extension of natural energy (Ki). Its movements emulate the waves and spirals of nature and its inner strength flows from the unity of body and mind.
Aikido practice is designed to develop conditioning, awareness, self confidence and positive cooperation with all of life's experience.
Although Aikido is a very effective martial art and embodies great power in its practice, it does not depend upon strength or size. Therefore men and women of all sizes may practice together with equal stature and safety.
